What happens during a website redesign
A relaunch is more than a new look. It is the chance to clean up the structure, halve the load time, improve rankings and bring the content in line with where the business actually is now. We work through it systematically.
Analysis phase
- Technical audit of the existing website
- Core Web Vitals baseline (LCP, INP, CLS)
- Google Search Console: which pages already rank?
- Content inventory: what carries over, what goes?
- Competitor comparison on design and technology
Build phase
- New design in Figma, mobile-first
- Development on a modern stack (Astro, Next.js or other)
- URL restructuring with clean 301 redirects
- Content migration and SEO work
- Launch with monitoring and a rollback plan
Website relaunch in Hamburg, what actually drives it
Many Hamburg businesses had their current website built five to eight years ago, often on WordPress with a theme that looked modern at the time. A lot has changed since: Google counts Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor, mobile use outweighs desktop, and GDPR requirements have tightened.
The usual triggers here: a trade business in Bergedorf losing jobs to competitors with better Google visibility. A city-centre law firm looking less credible than its rivals because of an old website. A HafenCity restaurant unable to take online reservations.
We start by working out which problems are actually present, technical, editorial or structural. Then we plan a relaunch that solves those without putting the existing rankings at risk.
A worked example: CESAR Security UG Hamburg
CESAR Security UG is an IHK-certified security company in Hamburg. Its existing site did not meet requirements: no internal CMS, no careers portal, weak local SEO presence.
The relaunch on Next.js 16 with a custom Supabase CMS solved all three. The team now maintains content itself, applications arrive through the careers portal, and the A+ ratings at SSL Labs and Security Headers signal the seriousness that matters particularly in the security trade.
- A+ rating at SSL Labs, Security Headers and Mozilla Observatory
- Full CMS, content maintainable in-house
- Careers portal with direct application
- WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility

Common questions about website redesign
Will I lose my current Google ranking in a redesign? +
Not if the relaunch is planned carefully. We work out in advance which URLs already rank and set up a 301 redirect for every URL that changes. Google then passes most of the ranking potential to the new URL. Straight after launch we watch Search Console for indexing errors.
Can my existing content be carried over? +
Yes. Everything you want to keep gets migrated. We do suggest treating the relaunch as a chance to rework dated copy: weak content slows the ranking down on a new website exactly as it did on the old one.
How long is my website offline during the relaunch? +
It is not. We build the new site on a staging environment and only take it live once everything is tested. The DNS switch takes a few minutes, and the old site stays up throughout.
When a redesign is worth it
The Nielsen Norman Group's research on website usability finds that users decide within 50 milliseconds whether a site looks trustworthy. Dated design lowers the perceived competence of the business before a single word has been read.
Other indicators: a load time over 3 seconds leads to 53 percent more bounces on mobile, according to Google. A site that fails Core Web Vitals loses ranking positions to faster competitors gradually and usually unnoticed, until the enquiries visibly drop off.
